Overview

Principles & Objectives

To create the innovative integrated electronic technologies for future energy-saving societies, it is urgent to find out new principle of growth and brush up the base of industry-academic collaboration, taking advantage of scientific knowledge and well-established engineering.

Considering this societal demand, we have established a strong hold of international industry-academic cooperation (CIES consortium) based on scientific knowledge and heritage of Tohoku University, and promoted the R&D of innovative technologies to contribute to the future energy-saving societies. In addition to the international industry-academic cooperation with world-class companies, CIES consortium aspires for practical application as well as industrialization of seeds of the innovative technologies of Tohoku University under the support measures from national and local governments by expanding the close cooperation with regional companies. Furthermore, we continue creating new core technologies from Tohoku University focusing on national projects. Through these activities, synergy (co-creation field) by the cooperation of the researchers from wide range of supply-chain from seeds (material/process/ ULSI etc.) to needs (software/tool/system etc.) will be created. In this manner, we will pursue this hierarchical supply-chain of technology from seeds to needs.

Currently, CIES consortium consists of following three pillars: wide-range of industryacademic joint research under the collaboration with world top-class domestic and international companies; major national projects in advanced research areas as a platform for industrialization; community-based cooperation projects aiming at wide-range of industrialization. Based on these three activities, we have promoted (1) R&D in the field of Information Technologies (IT) including electronic device components such as next generation memories, high performance board and package technologies, image processing and so on to realize low power consumption, (2) R&D in the field of car-electronics including electronic automotive components to realize innovative power management and low loss power supply.
